TOWARDS A BETTER TOMORROW

Blastline Institute India approached us with a project brief to redesign the Blastline India Institute website with strategic updates in areas of courses. Complex navigation and insufficient course information led to poor lead generation from the previous website.
This revamping exercise aimed at increased traffic and consequently increased lead conversions. The project started with user research covering persona analyses, on-site interviews with stakeholders and users, secondary research and user validation.

WEBSITE ANALYSIS

The existing website was analysed and studied based on research findings to improve the website browsing experience. This revealed valuable insights that were borrowed into the information architecture and visual design.
Content was organised, structured and mapped to aid in navigation and identifying the priorities of information on the site. The new website also required a functionality to remit fees. To communicate with the product's stakeholders and owners and break down complex systems, a Giga Map was designed that enlisted the entire flow and features of the redesigned website.

AUDITING THE PAST & PRESENT

The client’s business goals were to increase student intake and route all enrolments through the website. Efforts were made to channel at least 90% of the fee payment online along with a dedicated page to find placements and job opportunities. The website targets professionals who either wish to kick start their career in the Petrochemical, Marine and other heavy industries or those who aim at career progression in the Oil & Gas industry.
Previously, the user had to call the institution for each and every inquiry and had to wait till the next day for follow-up information. The user had no way to learn about the course duration, schedule, timings or faculty profiles. Potential students had to rely on word-of-mouth to learn about Blastline Institute India. Users were unable to find relevant information like Institute facilities, fee structures and the placement cell on the website.

USER RESEARCH & ANALYSIS

Bblewrap focused on conducting research with a focus group of 20 users covering two broad categories: The first category consisted of students looking to upskill after graduation and those searching for courses after finishing school. These 18- 24-year-olds made up 64% of the target audience. The latter category was professionals already working in the welding and sandblasting field who wished to improve their skills. From our primary research, we understood that 52% of students are unaware of the website’s presence while  68% were unable to find relevant information through the website.

MODERN WITH STRUCTURAL SIMPLICITY

With Global certifications and acclaimed partnerships, the Blastline website had to visually translate the feelings of trust, expertise and seamlessness to the viewer. Company branding was studied to align the web experience with the brand language.
The design of the website is modern, clinical and stealthy - echoing the engineering industry persona. Modular and structural design through clean, minimal, geometric design elements helped people relate better with the industry.

DESIGNING A SYSTEM FOR EFFICIENCY

After progressive discussions and iterations with the client, the approved giga map was used as a starting point for designing the website interface. Staff members’ requirements were also factored in.We studied colours, typefaces, and made visual boards to design a consistent look and feel for the website. Sample pages were presented, after which the approved design style was extended to the rest of the 10 main pages and sub-pages.

ENGAGING THROUGH SUBTLETY

Scrolling animations and micro-animations were used to aid in storytelling and to minimise content overload. The web design was optimised for desktop and mobile screens without compromising good loading speed.
The content was SEO optimised and the backend development using WordPress involved fully customisable and efficient CMS integration that offered seamless updation of any page for the client.

COMING TOGETHER OF INFORMATION & VISUALS

Monochromatic, industrial visuals were paired with geometric shapes derived from the logo form against a minimal palette of vibrant Blue and White. Montserrat was chosen as the Web font. This resulted in an interface that was both strong and classy.
The visual design of the website can be summed as Industrial, edgy and minimal with a clinical approach. This strategy was so that the design reflects the mechanical and Petrochemical engineering industry alongside the institute infrastructure.
