Introduction to the project

Founded in 1900’s, South Indian Bank has spent generations building relationships that extend far beyond transactions. Today, with over 900 branches across India, they have relationships with numerous consumers within one of the country's largest physical banking networks.

South Indian Bank approached Bblewrap to create a unified branch experience that could bring consistency across the network. The project expanded beyond standardisation. The opportunity was to take the promise the bank has always stood for, investing in relationships, reinforce it, and infuse it into their daily operations, so that customers could feel it in every branch, every day.

Emotion as the metric that shaped every decision

Using BRED™ (Bblewrap Rational and Emotional Design methodology), we mapped the relationship between the bank's business objectives, customer behaviour, and the lived experience of its branches. Service mapping and customer journey research pinpointed customer concerns and set ease as the design target. Environment design pursued the same goal of cutting friction from everyday banking activities, easing tension for employees and customers alike, and satisfying both the internal branding requirement and the branded customer experience. We split the branch into distinct psychological zones, translating each into space experience design, information design, and visual identity design.

The opportunity was to orient the branch toward long-term engagement, cultivating spaces built around conversation, orientation and reassurance, shaped by personalisation, ease and quiet confidence, the human factor capable of scaling consistently across the network.

Research showed that the most meaningful interactions within the branch centred not on routine transactions, but on conversations involving guidance, lending, financial planning and long-term decision-making. The branch therefore needed to support confidence as much as efficiency.
Each design intervention responded directly to an observation from the research, allowing the experience to reinforce the brand's promise at every stage of the customer journey.

BEFORE Redesign (SIB Vyttila branch)

Insight to Direction

We put forward "With You" a strategic concept that translates South Indian Bank's promise of investing in relationships from language into a governable design principle, applied consistently to layout, pace, and every conversation the branch was built to hold.

Design Language

The visual language evolved through exploration. Initial concepts extended the bank's existing identity into the physical environment, creating visual consistency but preserving the institutional qualities associated with conventional banking spaces. The final direction shifted toward a more human-centred expression while remaining rooted in the bank's established identity.
The existing wave element from the identity was reinterpreted as an architectural motif, extending across consultation spaces, environmental design and customer interactions. Rounded forms introduced a greater sense of approachability, fluid lines expressed continuity, and a warmer material palette brought care into the environment. The result is a continuous visual thread that expresses support, continuity and partnership, rooted firmly in the bank's established identity. Typography and materials followed the same principle, guided by human-centred dialogue and purpose-led communication.
What emerged was more than a redesigned branch, it was a new rhythm for the banking experience through a meticulously sequenced journey. The journey begins with certainty rather than hesitation, where a clearly defined arrival sequence replaces the uncertainty of entering a traditional branch with immediate reassurance. As customers move deeper into the space, consultation lounges, private meeting rooms and dedicated Relationship Manager spaces signal a shift from transactional banking to meaningful financial conversations shaped with intent. Behind the customer experience, the work environment is shaped by the Hawthorne principle: thoughtfully illuminated and carefully appointed spaces encourage greater staff focus, elevating the quality of every interaction they host.
The branch now unfolds as a meticulously sequenced journey. A clearly delineated orientation zone at the entry supplants uncertainty with immediate assurance from the very threshold. Consultation lounges, private meeting rooms and formally designated Relationship Manager stations are now standard across every branch, a tangible expression of "Investing in Relationships." The redesign also draws upon the Hawthorne principle: judiciously illuminated, thoughtfully appointed workspaces demonstrably sharpen staff focus and elevate the calibre of every interaction they host.

Scaling

It was designed as a system capable of supporting a network of more than 900 locations.  Bblewrap developed a comprehensive governance toolkit covering spatial planning and brand integration, providing a consistent framework that can adapt across branches of different scales and formats. Regulatory frameworks set the fixed boundaries of what a branch can offer. Within those boundaries, the emotional journey stands as the variable the bank can shape and scale, ensuring every customer, at every branch, feels the same quality of care. Designed for long-term internal adoption, the toolkit enables South Indian Bank's infrastructure teams to implement future branches independently while preserving the integrity of the experience.

Impact

South Indian Bank already possessed what many institutions strive to build: lasting trust. For a new generation of customers who expect their bank to feel as considered and personal as any other part of their life, the branch stands reinforces that the relationship comes first.
By aligning the physical environment with the bank's relationship-first philosophy, the branch becomes a tangible expression of the institution itself which is consistent, recognisable and built around the people it has served for generations.
